Angela Rose McDonald Tattoo Artist adheres to the highest standards of hygiene to ensure your safety and comfort during all your tattoo sessions. Angela also holds a bloodborne pathogen certification.

Are Tattoos Safe?

Tattoos can generally safe, but this also largely depends on factors such as the tattoo artist's qualifications and the cleanliness of the shop. It's also essential to do thorough research before getting a tattoo.

Creating a Sanitary Environment for Safer Tattoos

A good tattoo artist prioritizes both high-quality designs and client health. To ensure a safe and hygienic experience, look for these key signs when you visit a tattoo shop:

  • A clean front area

  • Wrapped workstations

  • The use of gloves and paper towels at all workstations

  • Disposal bins for used needles

  • Sterilization records

Proper aftercare helps with the healing process and quality of your tattoos. Thinking of getting a new tattoo? Here are some aftercare tips for you:

  • Keep your tattoo dry while it heals.

  • Avoid exposing your fresh tattoo to direct sunlight and protect it with sunscreen.

  • Make sure to use the aftercare products your tattoo artist suggests.

  • Limit your alcohol intake to reduce the risk of infection.

  • Avoid touching or scratching your new tattoo to prevent damage and infection.

The Tattoo Healing Process

Tattoo healing is a unique process that varies from one person to another. Generally though, it consists of three stages. Full healing can take several weeks, with dryness and flaking gradually subsiding.

Angela’s Aftercare Tattoo Instructions

Your tattoo will be covered with a Saniderm bandage. This waterproof, high-quality medical bandage is designed to protect and promote the healing of tattoos. It acts as a second skin, keeping out dirt and bacteria while allowing the tattoo to heal naturally.

  • Keep your Saniderm bandage on for 2-4 days. Those that need a padded bandage should leave it on for 24 hours and avoid getting it wet.

  • You may notice some blood or ink under the bandage. Do not be alarmed; this is perfectly normal. Do not puncture the bandage to drain, as this can increase your chance of infection.

  • If you notice irritation from either type of bandage, please remove it. You may be sensitive or allergic to it.

  • 2-4 days after your tattoo, carefully remove your Saniderm bandage and gently clean the tattoo with unscented soap and pat dry. Once the tattoo is dry, apply a tin coat of unscented moisturizer. Repeat this twice a day for 5-7 days.

  • Do not pick or scratch the tattoo. It can have light or hard flakes in areas. This is normal. It may take a few weeks for dry or flaky skin to go away.

  • Avoid using products such as scented lotions, beeswax ointments, astringents, or Polysporin.

  • Please reach out if you have any questions about your healing or aftercare. If you think the tattoo may be infected, please consult a physician.
